Acupuncture Is Not Only For Pain Relief Says Harvard Professor
I love it when science starts to catch up and give the credibility, explanations and confirmation that the experiential evidence clearly shows!
According to the latest research from an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, pretty much everybody can benefit from acupuncture, not only those that look to use it for pain relief.
As acupuncture continues to move into mainstream medicine, helping millions worldwide deal with allergies, stress, pain and more, it is becoming much more widely accepted by the medical establishment.
“There’s plenty of quality research supporting the use of acupuncture for a number of health conditions,” according to Joseph F. Audette, M.D., the chief of the department of pain management at Atrius Health in Boston and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School.
A new study from Indiana University School of Medicine reveals that acupuncture helps the release of stem cells, to assist repair of tendons and other tissues repair, and produces anti-inflammatory substances associated with healing.
“It’s basically what’s supposed to happen when you meditate, except it’s even stronger and faster,” Dr. Audette says of acupuncture’s healing properties. “Acupuncture relaxes your muscles, slows your heart rate, and reduces inflammation to promote healing.”
More recent research has uncovered powerful mental benefits of acupuncture as well. Perhaps most strikingly, according to a study from Arizona State University, it can also decrease feelings of stress for up to three months after treatment!
If you want to read more about my thoughts on the value of acupuncture from the experiential perspective, how it can actually change your life on a daily basis then click here. The subtleties and intelligence of the practice are immense – all the way through from treating physical conditions to fine tuning different organs that behave slightly different in different seasons.
And interestingly, if regular acupuncture isn’t possible for you, and you wish to cultivate your own means of having a similar effect on your health, without needing a practitioner, then reflect on the assertion that meditation can also have a similar effect! Alongside acupuncture, I also offer mindfulness and meditation coaching, find out more about that here!
